The Blumenstein castle ruin, a former rock castle, is located near Schönau in the Südwestpfalz district of Rhineland-Palatinate.

History+

The exact construction date of Blumenstein Castle is unknown, as are its original builders. It was first documented in 1332 in 1332 in connection with Knight Anselm von Batzendorf zu Blumenstein. In 1347, the then lords of the castle were expelled from the castle after a dispute with the Lords of Fleckenstein. Around 1350, after negotiations, a quarter of the complex went to the Counts of Zweibrücken, while the Lords of Dahn received three quarters.
