Bönnigheim Castle
Bönnigheim Castle, also known as the Old Castle, is the ruin of a Ganerbenburg (a castle owned by co-heirs) located on Burgstraße in the west of the old town of Bönnigheim, Ludwigsburg district in Baden-Württemberg.
As early as 1183, a "castrum Bienicke" was mentioned, and in 1188, Bönnigheim Castle was referred to as an Imperial Castle of Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa. It was part of the town's fortifications and later passed into the possession of the co-heirs. In 1338, the castle was owned by Fritz von Sachsenheim. From 1388, four co-heirs shared the castle: Sachsenheim, Neipperg, Liebenstein, and Woellenwarth.
In 1525, the castle was destroyed in the German Peasants' War, rebuilt in 1546, and in 1679, the so-called "Liebenstein part" was demolished and a wine cellar was built. In 1898, the round tower received a conical roof and was given the bell from the Cyriakus Church dating from 1359. In 1979, the castle was renovated.

The rectangular castle complex, in the northeastern corner of the town's fortifications, was separated from the town by a wall and a moat and featured a multi-story residential building with a still-existing stair tower leading to the former castle courtyard. Different window fronts and corbels on the south gable indicate multiple alterations.
