The Bosselstein Castle Ruin, also known as Burg Stein or Old Castle, is a hilltop castle above the Oberstein district of Idar-Oberstein. It rises on the Kirchenfelsen, a rugged reef that overlooks the Felsenkirche and is located directly next to Oberstein Castle.

History+

The construction of Bosselstein Castle took place in the 12th century by the Lords of Stein, also known as the Lords of Oberstein. Its first documented mention dates back to 1197. From the year 1600 onwards, the castle was no longer inhabited, leading to its gradual decay. In 1945, the ruin finally passed into the possession of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
