Bramburg Castle

The origins of Bramburg likely date back to the 11th century, with its first documented mention in 1063. In the early 13th century, it served as a protective fortress for the territories of Corvey Abbey. Later, in the second half of the 13th century, the castle became property of the Welf dukes. It was then enfeoffed to the Lords of Stockhausen, who, however, used it as a robber baron's nest. This led to its partial destruction in 1458 by the army of Landgrave Wilhelm of Thuringia. Nevertheless, the castle remained in the possession of the Stockhausen family. From the mid-16th century, the complex, which last served as a residence and administrative seat, fell into disrepair and was already a ruin by the end of the 17th century.
