Bucherbach Castle

Bucherbach Castle was first documented in 1326 when it was referred to as the “House in the Köllerbach Valley” in an inheritance contract of the Counts of Saarbrücken-Commercy. Count Johann I pledged the County of Saarbrücken but retained the castles of Saarbrücken and Bucherbach. In 1412, Count Philipp I of Nassau-Saarbrücken designated the castle as a dower house for his wife Elisabeth of Lorraine. In the mid-16th century, the complex underwent renovation under Philipp II. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle was devastated in 1627 by imperial troops under Count Kratz von Scharfenstein.
