Buchklingen Castle

The place Buchklingen was known as "Püchklingen" in the 13th century. In 1486, the castle was mentioned as being in the possession of the Lords of Seckendorff. In 1494, Michael von Seckendorff was enfeoffed with the property. He traded with the enemies of the imperial city of Nuremberg and harbored Kunz Keltsch, who around 1500 carried out raids against the Nuremberg "pepper sacks". In addition, Michael held Nuremberg hostages captive for ransom. Thereupon, in 1501, the Nurembergers besieged the "Rawber Schlosse", burned it down, and freed three prisoners from the dungeon. In 1502, the castle was rebuilt. After Michael's death in 1506, his brother Gilg von Seckendorff inherited the property. In 1525, the castle was burned down in the Peasants' War and subsequently rebuilt. In 1569, ownership changed to the Barons von Schutzbar (called Burgmilchlinger). In 1579, ownership changed to Veit von Giech zu Scheßlitz and in 1582 to the Lords von Oedenberg, who expanded the castle around 1600. In 1668, ownership changed to the Counts von Hohenlohe and in 1796 to the Barons von Wurster. By 1820, the castle had fallen into disrepair and was referred to as a "cheap quarry". From 1981-83, the moat was drained and the remaining walls were secured.
