West of Großbundenbach in the Südwestpfalz region lies the Bundenbach Castle Ruin, a spur castle.
History+
The origins of Bundenbach Castle likely date back to around 1200, when it was built by the Counts of Saarwerden. The castle complex changed hands multiple times, including the Counts of Veldenz, the Boos von Waldeck family, the Lords of Stein, and the Dukes of Zweibrücken. A castle chapel was first mentioned in a document in 1389. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle suffered damage and was finally demolished in 1813.

Surviving elements include remnants of the shield wall and the stump of a ten-meter-high residential tower, which formed the center of the upper castle. The complex was once divided into an upper and a lower castle, with the lower castle enclosing the upper castle to the north, west, and south.
