Collenburg Castle

The first documented mention of Collenburg occurred in 1214, at the same time as Fechenbach. Walter von Schüpf, who belonged to the noble family of Schenken von Limpurg, is named as its builder and owner. Around 1250, Walter married Elisabeth von Königstein Reicheneck and moved to the Nuremberg Hersbruck area. After his death in 1268, the castle became the property of the Teutonic Order. Wipertus Rüde de Rüdenau received the castle as a fief and founded the line of the Rüdt von Collenberg. In 1450, his descendants acquired Fechenbach and Reistenhausen. Although the castle fell to the Archbishopric of Mainz around 1500, the Rüdt von Collenberg remained the feudal lords. The male line of the Rüdt died out in 1635, after which the Archbishopric of Mainz granted the castle to Nikolaus Georg von Reigersberg in 1648. The Counts of Reigersberg inhabited the castle for about 100 years before moving to the newly built Fechenbach Castle on the Main in 1750.
