The castle ruin Dabernburg, also known as Heideturm, is situated in Alt Daber, a district of Wittstock. Its keep is visible from afar.

History+

Historical records from 1284 document negotiations between the Principality of Werle and Brandenburg "up de Daber," suggesting the existence of an early fortification at this location. Between 1438 and 1475, the city of Wittstock erected the Dabernburg as an outpost to secure the crossing over the Daber stream. The complex, consisting of a tower and a bailey, served to repel Mecklenburg attacks. In the early 19th century, the dilapidated castle was restored, with the tower being raised with a conical roof and non-original bricks. From 1843, the castle housed the forest administration.
