The Desenberg castle ruin is a hilltop castle located on the eponymous mountain in the Warburg Börde, near Daseburg, a district of Warburg, in the Höxter district of North Rhine-Westphalia.

History+

A fortification is said to have existed on the Desenberg as early as 766. In 1168, Henry the Lion besieged his vassal Widukind von Schwalenberg there, with miners from Goslar digging a tunnel to cut off the water supply. After Henry the Lion was placed under imperial ban in 1180, Archbishop Philipp I von Heinsberg of Cologne captured the castle in 1181. During the Hesse-Paderborn Feud between 1464 and 1471, Landgrave Ludwig II of Lower Hesse unsuccessfully besieged the castle in 1464.
