Diemerstein Castle

The exact date of construction of Diemerstein Castle and its builder are unknown. The castle was first mentioned in a document in 1216, when a nobleman named Rudegar von Dimarstein took his name from it. In the 13th century, the Lords of Dymerstein were involved in disputes with Otterberg Abbey and in 1221 transferred the patronage rights of the Hochspeyer church to the Bishop of Worms. Around 1250, the Raugraves took over the castle and appointed Knight Gundelmann as castellan. In the late 14th century, Diemerstein was pledged to the Trier Archbishop Kuno von Falkenstein, but later reverted to the Raugraves, who sold parts of the castle to Palatinate nobles, making it a Ganerbenburg (castle owned by multiple families). The Electors of the Palatinate gradually acquired most of the castle.
