Dilsberg Castle Ruin, a hilltop fortress, rises high above the Neckar Valley in Neckargemünd. It was part of the former fortifications of the Electoral Palatinate.

History+

The origins of Dilsberg Castle date back to the High Middle Ages, with a predecessor structure built between 1150 and 1200. In 1208, the Counts of Lauffen were the lords of the castle, followed by the Counts of Dürn, who called themselves Counts of Dilsberg from 1252. Around 1300, the castle passed into the possession of the Electoral Palatinate and underwent extensive renovations starting in the 1330s. During the Thirty Years' War, Dilsberg was one of the most heavily contested fortresses.
