Dölau Castle

Dölau Castle

To be privately owned

In 1359, the castle of the Knights of Dölau was mentioned for the first time. The knights themselves were already mentioned in 1288. The ruins of Dölau Castle, today a district of Greiz, are located on a rock to the right of the White Elster river. The former moats have long since been filled in.

Around 1300, an extension of the southeastern residential tower took place, and in 1576, a northeast wing was added, which was demolished in 1980.

Besides the Knights of Dölau, the Vögte of Weida and the Counts of Reuss resided here.
