The Dollendorf Castle Ruin, also known as the “Finger of God,” stands in the Eifel region. This former hilltop castle in Schloßthal, a district of Blankenheim, is a testament to medieval architecture.

History+

The Dollendorf Castle was first documented in 1077. It served as the residence for the noble family of Dollendorf, first mentioned in 893, until the mid-15th century. In the 12th century, the castle became a Cologne fief, before falling under the feudal sovereignty of the Counts of Luxembourg and the Counts of Jülich in the 13th century. The ruin owes its name “Finger of God” to its over 20-meter-high keep, whose remaining half is visible, reaching into the sky.
