Domburg Castle

The origins of the Domburg possibly date back to the High Middle Ages. It was first documented in 1310 as the property of Ludolph von Knesebeck. The family is said to have operated from here as robber knights, making the nearby military and trade route between Leipzig and Lüneburg unsafe. These attacks led to the castle being besieged and captured in 1367 by troops of Bishop Albert III of Halberstadt, as well as forces from the cities of Aschersleben, Halberstadt, and Quedlinburg. Subsequently, the complex became the property of the Bishops of Halberstadt and frequently served as collateral in the following years. The castle was abandoned as early as the 15th century.
