Dornach Castle

The first documented mention of Dornach dates back to 1416, when it was owned by Hans Lasberger. Around 1400, Hans and Wenzel Lasberger undertook a new construction. During the Hussite Wars around 1427, the castle suffered damage. In 1436, Hans der Lasperger sold the complex to Simon Volkra. The Volkra family, who held Dornach as a princely fief, had the current round tower with its elevated entrance and battlements constructed during their tenure until 1505. In 1505, the castle was sold for 2350 Gulden to the Lords of Zelking, who already owned Weinberg Castle. Under their patronage, the outwork with three shell towers was built. Dornach lost importance under the Zelkings and, like Weinberg, was taken over by the Thürheim family in 1629. A fire around 1650, resulting from a feud with the Prandegg lordship, turned the castle into a ruin.
