Drivenik Castle

The castle ruin of Drivenik is on a hill in the hinterland of the Croatian Adriatic coast.
History+
Drivenik Castle was first documented in 1228, appearing as a co-signer of the Vinodol Code. It served as the administrative center of the region. In the 16th century, around 1571, the complex underwent expansion and was transformed into a Renaissance fortress with round towers at its corners. From 1577, the castle was under the rule of the noble Zrinski family. With the construction of a new road in 1746, connecting Drivenik with Novi Vinodolski and Bakar, the inhabitants' lives shifted to the valley, and the castle was abandoned.
