The Durlach Castle Ruin, also known as Turmberg, stands above Karlsruhe-Durlach. It was built as the ancestral seat of the Counts of Hohenberg.

History+

The origins of Durlach Castle date back to the second half of the 11th century, when it was built by the Counts of Hohenberg as their ancestral seat. The complex changed hands several times and was owned by, among others, the Counts of Grötzingen, the Staufer, and the Margraves of Baden. An event was the castle's destruction in 1279 by Bishop Konrad III of Lichtenberg. By the mid-16th century, only the keep of the fortress remained, which subsequently served as a regional watchtower.
