The remains of the castle can be visited

The castle was probably built in the second half of the 12th century. In a document by Reinpert von Hohenstein, dated around 1182, in which he confirms the donation of two farms "to Ekkehardestein" to the Göttweig Abbey, the name of the castle is mentioned for the first time.
