The castle ruin of Eibenstein is situated in Raabs an der Thaya-Eibenstein in the district of Waidhofen an der Thaya in Lower Austria. This site is located at an elevation of approximately 380 meters above sea level.

History+

The first documented mention of Eibenstein Castle dates back to 1194. In April 1543, the complex changed hands and was sold to the brothers Christoph and Erasmus von Schneckenreith. After the extinction of this family in 1569, the castle became part of the Drosendorf dominion and is now owned by the Hoyos family. It is presumed that the castle was already in ruins during the lifetime of the cartographer Georg Matthäus Vischer, who did not depict it in his works.
