Enzberg Old Castle

The origins of Enzberg Castle date back to the mid-11th century and are closely linked to the noble family of Zeisolf-Wolframe, who ruled as counts over the Kraichgau. The castle was first documented in 1193 when Archbishop Johannes of Trier acquired it and subsequently returned it as a fief. Between 1193 and 1197, a Friedrich von Entzenberg, who named himself after the castle, appeared for the first time. The later attested Lords of Enzberg, related to the families of Niefern and Dürrmenz, all bore a finger ring in their coat of arms. Heinrich von Enzberg, the first documented representative of this family, held the office of Vogt of Maulbronn, which the Enzbergs exercised several times as protectors, often accompanied by disputes with Maulbronn Abbey.
