The castle was built around 1180 by the Lords of Falkenberg, who were vassals of the Ravensburgers. The Ravensburgers' castle was located opposite on the other side of the Main river. Heinrich Hund von Falkenberg, as a vassal of the Rabensburgers, was involved in the murder of Bishop Konrad von Querfurt in 1202. After receiving their punishments in Rome, the family left the Diocese of Würzburg. In 1203, the castle was destroyed.
