Feuersberg Castle

When the castle was built is not known. In 1265 it is first mentioned in a document as "Vewersprech". The entire area in the Jauntal was originally royal property, then passed by way of donation to Bishop Albuin of Brixen and his brother Count Aribo.

The property then came into the possession of the Spanheimers. At the end of the 13th century, the area around Feuersberg was held as a fief by the Counts of Heunburg. In 1359, the castle and its dominion were pledged to the Counts of Cilli. Soon after, Feuersberg came to Konrad von Aufenstein and, after the fall of the Aufensteiners in 1368, to the Dukes of Austria. Repeatedly pledged by them, Freundsberg came into the possession of the Ungnad family in the 15th century.

In 1493, they were enfeoffed with the castle and the dominion by Emperor Frederick III. In 1609, Wolf Andrä Jöstl was enfeoffed with the dominion, which had in the meantime reverted to the Archduke. In 1642, Baron Wolf Andrä Jöstl sold the dominion to Baron Johann Andrä Rosenberg. The Rosenbergs built Feuersberg Castle at the foot of the Hemmaberg in the 17th century. The old castle was already in ruins by this time.
