The Geyerschloss castle ruin in Giebelstadt, a market town in Lower Franconia, is a structure whose origins date back to the 14th century. The preserved remains today serve as a backdrop for cultural events.

History+

The construction of the Geyerschloss took place in the 14th century by a member of the Geyer von Giebelstadt family, a “Gier von Gibelstat”. The complex was originally designed as a moated castle, featuring three wings, round corner towers, a deep moat, and a drawbridge. In the autumn of 1441, the castle was destroyed but subsequently rebuilt. Later owners included Florian Geyer, a well-known figure in the Peasants' War. The Geyer von Giebelstadt lineage died out in 1708.
