Gödersheim Castle

The first documented mention of Gödersheim Castle dates back to 1343, when it was owned by the von Gödersheim family. In 1373, Johann von Vlatten was named as its owner. Through marriage, the complex passed to the Lords of Lülsdorf in 1474, who built the moated castle visible today around 1500. In 1630, the von Rohe called Obsinnich family acquired the castle. By 1642 at the latest, ownership changed hands through marriage to Gotthard von Merode-Houffalize. His son Johann Wilhelm and his wife Anna Maria von Holtorp had the bailey gate redesigned around 1708, as evidenced by an alliance coat of arms. When the von Merode family line died out in 1826, the castle passed to the Graef family. Their heirs sold the property in parts, with the Meiss family from Wollersheim acquiring the castle. Members of this family inhabited the keep until 1865, after which the decay into a ruin began.
