The castle ruin Grüneck, also known as Gerneck, lies southeast of Lipburg, a district of Badenweiler. This tower castle offers an insight into medieval defensive architecture.

History+

Only limited confirmed information exists regarding the history of Grüneck Castle. It is believed that it might be the Gerneck Castle mentioned in 1272. The hilltop castle could have been built as early as the 10th or 11th century, initially as a timber-and-earth structure. A stone reconstruction followed later, with the residential tower likely erected in the 13th century.
