Gutenburg Castle

The complex was first documented in 1213 under the name "castro Weitersheim". In 1334, the Counts of Sponheim (Vordere Grafschaft) acquired the castle, which by then already bore the name Gutenburg. Following the purchase, the new owners carried out renovations. With the extinction of the Sponheim lines in the 15th century, the castle passed to the co-lords of Vorderes Sponheim, primarily the Margraviate of Baden and the Electorate of the Palatinate.
