Haimburg Castle

The first documented mention of Haimburg was in 1103 under the name Huneburch. The Counts of Heunburg, known by name since 1070, were a family in Carinthian regional history during the 12th and 13th centuries. Their lineage died out in the male line in 1322. The castle subsequently passed to the Counts of Pfannberg, whose last representative died in 1362. In the same year, Haimburg fell to the Counts of Görz and finally came into the possession of the Habsburgs in 1460 after the Peace of Pusarnitz. The original builders, the Counts of Heunburg, used Rauterburg before constructing Haimburg in the 10th century and became one of Carinthia's families until they were defeated by the Habsburgs in the Battle of Wallersberg in 1293. From 1990, the castle was restored by an association.
