Haunsberg Castle

In the middle of the 12th century, Haunsberg Castle was the site of a transfer from the Haunsbergers to St. Peter's Abbey in Salzburg, in which a Gotscakle von Haunsperg is mentioned. From the high-ranking Haunsbergers, Friedrich (1125), Gottschalk (1147), Ulrich and Mechtild (before 1272) are known. In 1211, Gottschalk von Haunsperg was appointed castle warden, although it had already been handed over to St. Peter's Abbey by his ancestors. It remains unclear whether the Haunsbergers then called themselves ministerials of Haunsperg or whether the name was adopted by a later castle warden. Haunsbergers appear as witnesses in documents in 1260 and 1285.

In 1307, Archbishop Konrad IV von Fohnsdorf gave Ulrich von Haunsperg and his wife Adelein a monetary gift as a morning gift. However, in 1306, a Seibot von Noppingen was already burgrave at Haunsberg, followed by a series of different wardens. In 1603, the wardenships of Laufen and Haunsperg were merged at the official residence in Laufen. Already in 1612, the poor structural condition of the castle was lamented. In 1613, a document speaks of a palace. In 1615 and 1646, the castle was again prepared for defense, but then left to decay. In 1727, it was supposed to be demolished, but this was not carried out. In 1790, however, stones and columns were transported away for Weitwörth Castle.

Today, remnants of the former curtain wall are present north of the church, and remnants of the castle ruins are recognizable.
