Hauseck Castle

The first documented mention of Hauseck Castle occurred in 1338 as part of a partition treaty of the Palatinate. Since it was not mentioned in the House Treaty of Pavia in 1329, its construction is presumed to have taken place between 1329 and 1338, possibly under Duke Rudolph I to secure his claims to power. However, the Palatine counts had to pledge the castle to King Charles IV in 1353, who granted it as a Bohemian fief to Konrad von Kemnath in 1354. After several changes of ownership, including the von Wildenstein family and Ulrich von Henfenfeld, Stephan von Wolfstein acquired the castle in 1380. Although Hauseck remained a Bohemian fief, the right of access passed to the Bavarian dukes from 1373. Before 1489, the castle passed to Jörg Petz, later to Sebold Peringsdorfer and Jobst II.
