The Heilsberg castle ruin in Gottmadingen offers a glimpse into the medieval history of Baden-Württemberg. As a former hilltop castle, it was marked by destruction and reconstruction.

History+

The origins of Heilsberg Castle date back to the second half of the 13th century, with its first documentary mention occurring in 1303. In 1310, the Lords of Randegg were named as owners. After an initial destruction in 1499, the castle was rebuilt around 1518 by the Lords of Schellenberg. Another destruction took place in 1525 during the Peasants' War. The complex suffered its final destruction in 1635 during the Thirty Years' War by Konrad Widerholt, after which it was left to decay.
