Henneberg Castle

The castle was probably built around the middle of the 12th century by Konrad von Feistritz. The first documentary mention dates from 1147. Around 1319, the castle was already abandoned and left to decay. It was only rediscovered in the 19th century, but then fell into oblivion again. In the middle of the 20th century, it was rediscovered and, towards the end of that century, also measured and investigated for the first time.
Henneberg is an example of an unspoiled small, Romanesque castle around 1200, which was apparently abandoned before it was subjected to Gothic alterations.
