The castle ruin Hohendießen, also known as Hohendießen Castle, is on an elevation northwest of Horb's district Dießen in Baden-Württemberg. This hilltop castle was first documented in the 14th century.

History+

Hohendießen Castle was first mentioned in the 14th century as a Hohenberg fief of the local noble family of Dießer, which had already appeared in documents around 1100. In 1334, Ulrich and Wolf der Dießer were recorded as owners. After several changes of ownership, the castle suffered damage during the German Peasants' War in 1525. The Lords of Wernau acquired it in 1552 and converted it into a castle between 1557 and 1580. Through inheritance, the complex passed to the Schenken von Stauffenberg in 1696, who sold it to the Swiss monastery of Muri in 1798.
