Hohenkrähen Castle

The origins of Hohenkrähen Castle date back to the late 12th century, when it was built between 1180 and 1190 by the Lords of Friedingen, who subsequently also called themselves “de Craien.” In the 15th century, the Friedingens exploited the turmoil of the era for raids, leading to a settlement with the Swiss Confederates in 1446. A siege in 1512 by the Swabian League, triggered by a spurned marriage proposal, resulted in the capture, burning, and demolition of the castle, which was later rebuilt. Around 1560, Hans Jakob Fugger acquired the complex and had the palas extended, before the castle changed hands again in 1571.
