History+

Around the year 1100, the Counts of Nagold, later known as the Counts Palatine of Tübingen, began the construction of the first Hohennagold Castle. Between 1153 and 1162, the complex underwent extensive expansion. In the mid-13th century, ownership transferred to the Counts of Hohenberg. A branch of this family adopted the name Counts of Nagold and developed the castle into their residence during the 13th and 14th centuries. In 1363, they sold the castle to the Counts of Württemberg, who, in the 15th century, added the outer bailey with bastions and corner towers and garrisoned the complex with their retainers. The castle met its end during the Thirty Years' War, when it was destroyed in 1645/46.
