Hohenschramberg Castle

Construction of the castle began in 1457 under Hans von Rechberg, who established the Lordship of Schramberg by acquiring other castles such as Falkenstein and Schilteck. He had Hohenschramberg expanded into a fortress, making it one of the last castles built in Germany. As early as 1464, the castle withstood a siege by Count Eberhard im Bart. In 1526, the lordship passed to the Lords of Landenberg from Switzerland. Later, in 1547, the castle went to Rochus Merz von Staffelfelden, who further expanded it and received market rights from Emperor Charles V. From 1583 to 1805, Hohenschramberg belonged to Further Austria. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle was besieged and captured by Duke Eberhard of Württemberg in 1633.
