History+

The origins of Hollókő Castle date back to the mid-13th century. Following the Mongol invasions, construction began as a protective measure to counter future attacks. At this time, the area was owned by the Kacsics noble clan. The castle was first mentioned in documents in 1310. Control over Hollókő changed hands multiple times, especially after its capture by the Ottomans in 1552. For about 150 years, the castle was a contested object between Ottoman and Hungarian forces.
