The origins of Karksi Order Castle date back to the 14th century, when it was erected as a strategically important stronghold for the Teutonic Order in this region. From 1470 onwards, the castle served as the official residence of the local commander. However, its fate was sealed during the Great Northern War, when it was extensively destroyed and subsequently not rebuilt.
