Kirkel Castle

The first documented mention of a Count of Kirkel dates to 1075. At the beginning of the 11th century, the castle came into the possession of the Counts of Saarwerden. Between 1214 and 1386, the castle was granted to the Lords of Kirkel as an imperial fief. In the 13th century, the small and round towers were constructed. The village of Kirkel emerged in the 15th century. From 1410 to 1689, the complex was owned by the Dukes of Palatinate-Zweibrücken.
