Klingenberg Castle

The origins of Klingenberg Castle date back to the 11th century, when it was presumably built by the Lords of Perg. The complex changed hands multiple times. Initially, it passed to the Clam-Velburg family, before going to Duke Leopold VI. after the death of the last heir, Count Ulrich, in 1217. Later, the Habsburgs pledged the castle to the Lords of Walsee, who held it until 1358. Numerous other noble families followed as pledge owners, including the Rohrbacher, Neudecker, Liechtensteiner, and Prüschenk. In 1630, Klingenberg was finally sold to the Canons Regular Monastery of Waldhausen, which withdrew its administration and left the castle to decay.
