Klosterberg Castle
The Klosterberg castle ruin, on a mountain in the Bavarian Spessart, is a high medieval complex. From the former complex, wall remnants and a ring wall are still visible today.
History+
The construction of the castle on the Klosterberg is dated to the 13th century, making it an older complex than the opposing fortification on the Gräfenberg. An archaeological excavation in 1973 unearthed ceramic fragments and exposed further parts of the ruin. It is believed that the remains on the Klosterberg are those of the long-sought "Waldenberg Castle".
