The castle ruin of Königstein is located above Küttigen in the Swiss canton of Aargau.
History+
The origins of Königstein Castle date back to 1277, when it was built by the Lords of Kienberg-Küngstein. This family exercised a small vogtei over the surrounding areas of Küttigen and Erlinsbach. In 1417, the castle changed hands and was sold to the city of Aarau. After the dominion of Königstein fell directly to Bern in 1535, it became part of the Biberstein bailiwick. With the establishment of the Helvetic Canton of Aargau in 1798, to which it belonged from 1803, Küttigen and thus the castle were assigned to this new entity.

The Königstein castle ruin is owned by the local civic community of Küttigen. A ground plan of the complex has been created by the Aargau Cantonal Archaeology.
