Krosigk Castle

The origins of Krosigk Castle are linked to Dedo von Krosigk, a Franconian nobleman first documented in 1103. His significance was evident in 1115 when he provided refuge to Wiprecht von Groitzsch the Younger, an opponent of Emperor Henry V, indicating Dedo's influence at the imperial court. The castle's structures likely date from this early period. In the 13th century, the Krosigk family also played a role; Konrad von Krosigk became Bishop of Halberstadt in 1201 and was instrumental in the Fourth Crusade. After the original line died out around 1280, the Lords of Garsena took over the castle and established a new branch of the Krosigk family. Following numerous pledges, the lordship passed to the Archdiocese of Magdeburg in the 14th century.
