Lahr Castle

The exact construction date of Lahr Castle is unknown, but documentary evidence confirms its existence as a Kurköln fief in the possession of the Counts of Isenburg as early as the 14th century. It is believed that the origins of the complex date back further. In 1449, the Archbishop of Cologne pledged the castle to Count Heinrich of Nassau. In the centuries that followed, the castle changed hands multiple times. From the 18th century onwards, it fell into ruin and was later even used as a quarry. Only in the 20th century were the remaining structural elements secured.
