Laudenbach Castle

The castle was built around 1150 by the Lords of Hohenlohe. In 1291, Elisabeth von Hohenlohe, the widow of Gottfried von Hohenlohe, sold her share of the castle to her brother-in-law Gottfried von Schlüsselberg. From Gottfried von Schlüsselberg, this share came to the husband of his daughter Elisabeth, Count Konrad von Vaihingen. Cf. documents of 1319, February 27 and 1319, March 13. The castle then changed owners several times, including the Lords of Henneberg and the Counts of Wertheim, and was repeatedly enfeoffed. In 1466, the property came to Eytil Voit von Rieneck, until it was destroyed, burned out and not rebuilt in 1525 during the German Peasants' War, having been abandoned in the meantime. As "reparations", the New Castle had to be built on the Main side by the peasants after 1525. From 1978 to 1983, the Upper Tower, popularly known as "Dicker Turm" (Fat Tower), was renovated by the city of Karlstadt, which owns the ruin today.
