The castle ruin of Lichteneck is perched on a rocky spur above Hecklingen, a district of Kenzingen, in Baden-Württemberg. This historic spur castle, once an imposing structure, is now a fascinating ruin, bearing witness to a turbulent history.

History+

The construction of Lichteneck Castle took place between 1265 and 1290 under the aegis of the Counts of Freiburg. Its first documented mention as "Liehtenekke" dates back to 1290. Over time, the castle passed into the possession of the Counts Palatine of Tübingen-Lichteneck. A decisive event was its destruction in the Geroldsecker War in 1433. Although it was rebuilt in the 16th century, it suffered its final destruction in 1675 during the Dutch War by French troops.
