The Lichtenstein Castle Ruin, a hilltop castle in Pfarrweisach-Lichtenstein, is medieval architecture in the Haßberge region, Bavaria. It stands at approximately 414 meters above sea level.

History+

The first documented mention of Lichtenstein Castle dates back to 1232. During the 14th century, it evolved into a Ganerbenburg, where several family branches and noble lineages coexisted. This development was also encouraged by the Prince-Bishopric of Würzburg to curb Bamberg's influence in the region. During the Peasants' War in 1525, the northern part of the castle suffered damage and fell into ruin, while the southern part remained intact and was expanded in the 16th century.
