The castle ruin of Liemberg is enthroned west of the eponymous village in the municipality of Liebenfels, nestled in the picturesque landscape of Carinthia. This historic complex, rising on the steep slope of the Göseberg, reveals a fascinating mix of Romanesque and Gothic architectural elements and, despite its manageable size, is a remarkable testament to medieval architecture.

History+

The origins of Liemberg Castle date back to the 12th century. Its first documented mention appears in 1167, when a Wolfpertus de Liebenberch was named. The complex suffered damage in 1348 due to the devastating Friulian earthquake. In the late 17th century, around 1688, Valvasor already described the castle as an old, completely abandoned and desolate site, recognizable only as a tower.
