On a sandy spur near Lindau in Saxony-Anhalt, the Lindau Castle Ruin, a former hilltop castle, rises. It once served as a refuge for the region's inhabitants.

History+

The Lindau Castle was presumably built as early as the 9th or 10th century, as indicated by findings of Slavic pottery. Its first documented mention occurred in 1179, when it was owned by Lord Evererus of Lindau. The castle served as a refuge for the surrounding rural population, especially during periods of conflict such as the Thirty Years' War. In the 15th century, the complex was expanded. The castle tower was renovated in 1863 under Duke Leopold Friedrich as part of the Ascania restoration.
