The remains of the castle can be visited

The cave castle was probably built in the 13th century by the Lords of Rettenberg-Hoheneck, who owned another stronghold nearby with Vilseck Castle. In 1265, a castellan Conradus de Foramine (Loch) is mentioned in a document.
